Pain reduction through VR

Years ago, the introduction of VR in maternity sounded like a strange idea, but two gynaecologists from Zuyderland MC in the Netherlands brought it to life as ‘Birth VR’. Thanks to the Virtual Reality environment, it helps women relax and feel less pain. Scientific research shows that the pain score drops by an average of 2 points on a scale of 0 (no pain) to 10 (severe pain).

On the beach or in the mountains?

Being in another reality creates distraction. As a result, fewer pain impulses go to your brain. With BirthVR women can do numerous relaxation and breathing exercises. They can teleport themselves to the beach, the mountains or even the bottom of the ocean. Both the calming music and the voice can be set to your own preferences.

Did you know that…

96% of users would like to give birth again using VR. The use of VR during pregnancy and childbirth is clearly paying off.

Focus on usability

We have also made the use as comfortable as possible, by attaching a remote control as a ‘pointer’, adding no moving images to avoid motion sickness and a clear bubble animation that assists women with breathing and puffing exercises. In addition, BirthVR can be used both at home and in the hospital.

New worlds to explore

Virtual reality is the ultimate instrument for a complete experience. You enter a parallel universe that shows reality, an idea or a dream in an accessible way.

How does it work?

We recreate your ideal world in virtual reality by filming a 360° video on-site or by recreating it in 3D.
